The art of entertaining during the holidays: creating magic with Frasier Fir 🕯️🎄
Hosting during the holidays isn't just about opening the door. It's about welcoming stories, laughter, and memories that are being created in real time. It's about gathering the people we love in a space that feels genuine.
I've always believed that the way we entertain is a direct reflection of how we want others to feel. An atmosphere isn't something you can just conjure up. It's built, one detail at a time: the enveloping scent of a fir tree, a throw left draped over the arm of an armchair, soft lighting that warms the room, a comforting meal that transforms the kitchen into the beating heart of the home.
Creating an atmosphere is an act of love. And that's precisely what guides my work every day. Whether I'm photographing a scene, designing a set for a campaign, or preparing a visual… my goal always remains the same: to touch people. To awaken an emotion. To make them feel something real. Because in design, just like in the art of hospitality, every little element counts. Every detail is a piece of ourselves that we choose to share.
Giving a candle, diffuser, or decorative object during the holidays is more than just a gift. It's sharing a piece of our own comfort. A warm note that says, "This is what makes me feel good... I'm giving it to you." It's a subtle yet powerful way to create a connection.
Holidays have this rare ability: they awaken the most human part of us. We come together, we share, we celebrate. And it's often the little things that remain etched in our memories.
The new baby of the family, carried from arm to arm like a little mascot, covered in attention to such an extent that he will end up building antibodies just from all the love he receives.
The grandchildren who unpack their identical pajamas, shouting with joy, then run to put them on before coming back proud as peacocks.
Our slightly annoying children come back every five minutes with their classic question: "So... can we open a present?"
Cousins who chat as if they hadn't seen each other for twenty years, even if it sometimes only dates back to last summer.
The unique laugh of "uncle", which we wouldn't want to hear every day... but which, once a year, becomes a memory that we keep with a real smile.
Mom taking photos non-stop, convinced she's capturing "THE" perfect photo... when in the end, nobody looks their best, half the shots are blurry, and that's precisely what makes them so funny and precious.
Dad, the man of the house, who manages his fire like a pro, beer in hand, making trips back and forth to get wood so that there is never a shortage of flames or sips.
Grandma pulls out her "secret" recipes, the ones whose basic ingredients we all know, but that we'll never be able to recreate exactly. Her secret ingredient, love, is measured in a way that no one can replicate.
Grandpa still winning at cards with his little wink that suggests he's cheating just enough to keep it funny.
And our great-grandparents, those family legends capable of hosting close, extended, and distant relatives, neighbors, visiting friends, and even a stranger or two, without ever knowing how many people would sit around the table. Today, organizing a similar gathering would be worthy of a Guinness World Record, but at their house, no one ever wanted for anything.
The crackling fireplace and the scent of fresh pine wafting through the house, affirming: "Come in. This is your home."
These scenes represent our roots. They remind us that "feeling at home" is not a place, but a feeling.
And that's precisely what I strive to create in my role at LUSINE: memorable experiences. Atmospheres that speak to the heart as much as to the eyes. Because ultimately, the art of hospitality and the art of creation share the same principle: to evoke an emotion that will last.
The holidays are approaching. What if we chose to offer a little bit of ourselves to those we love? A scent, an object, an atmosphere… something that simply says:
"Here, you are comfortable. Here, you are at home."
